Press Release
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — Golf's most popular traveling tournament series is coming to one of America's premier public courses.
The Barstool Classic, a series of 25 events that span the country, will tee off at True Blue Golf Club on March 6th. The one-day event, which is sold out, includes 18 holes of golf, breakfast, lunch, Truly Hard Seltzer, a tee gift and more.
The format is two-man, better ball with teams using 50 percent of their USGA Handicap Index. The top four finishers will advance to the Barstool Classic Championship and have the opportunity to win $10,000, in addition to having their names engraved on the Commissioners Cup.
True Blue, which is ranked among America's top 100 resort courses by Golfweek, is an ideal place to begin the 2023 series, treating players to the work of legendary architect Mike Strantz. The course's bold design features sweeping fairways, large undulating greens and rugged waste bunkers.
Strantz was a supernova on the architecture scene, designing seven courses before passing away from cancer in 2005, and True Blue has proven to be one of his most popular layouts.
Everything is big at True Blue and the size of the course is at the heart of its popularity, enhancing its playability for high handicappers while more skilled golfers have to play to the proper spots to score well.
Barstool's team – Trent, Riggs, Frankie and Dan – have enjoyed a meteoric rise based on the popularity of its Fore Play podcast, an engaging, irreverent look at the game through the eyes of regular golfers. Many of golf's biggest names have appeared on Fore Play, reaching a younger, yet no less passionate, audience.
Given that the Fore Play crew played True Blue last year as part of its travel series, the team is very comfortable bringing its fans to the course. (If you aren't among the 164,000+ people who watched the Fore Play team challenge the course, click here to do so.)
The Barstool Classic will be played in 18 states and Toronto, Canada with courses such as The Greenbrier, TPC Boston and Grand Traverse Resort joining True Blue as high-profile hosts.
