COLUMBIA, S.C. – The American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina is pleased to announce that Jace Woodrum will lead the organization as its new executive director.
“Jace has been part of creating social change at every angle, including overseeing voter education campaigns, advancing legislation in a politically-charged environment, and shaping public opinion through effective messaging and engagement,” said ACLU of South Carolina Board President Stuart Andrews. “He has the unique experience and passion necessary to meet this moment where South Carolinians' civil rights and liberties are under increasing threats. Jace is the right leader to build on the ACLU of South Carolina's storied 54-year legacy and help shape our next chapter.”
Woodrum grew up in Easley, South Carolina and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina. He moved west in 2010 to lead communications at the newly established One Colorado, working to advance equality for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families. Woodrum built One Colorado's brand and reputation as a powerful force in the state, rising through the organization's ranks and ending his tenure as Deputy Executive Director.
Woodrum went on to serve in leadership roles at Equality Federation and at the Gill Foundation, one of the nation's largest funders of LGBTQ advocacy. After almost a decade advancing LGBTQ policy, including relationship recognition for gay couples and nondiscrimination protections for transgender Americans, Woodrum joined the Colorado Health Foundation. In this role, he created the organization's public opinion and messaging research portfolio to build support for health equity policy.
“After 12 years away, learning and growing as a leader, I'm excited to come home to South Carolina and work to make sure the constitutional rights and freedoms of all South Carolinians are protected,” said Woodrum. “I'm honored to have the opportunity to work with such an important organization, with an incredible team, and with our dedicated supporters. Together, we will build a South Carolina where ‘We The People’ means everyone.”
Mr. Woodrum was selected after an extensive nationwide search and will begin in his role on September 6th.
