Press Release
Charlotte, N.C. – SeamonWhiteside, a full-service land design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, is participating in the Carolina Brain Tumor Walk and Race on Saturday, April 23rd, hosted by the National Brain Tumor Society, the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the brain tumor community in the United States. This event raises awareness and funds to support the needs of brain tumor patients and their families. As a sponsor, SeamonWhiteside has set a goal of raising $5,000 to help contribute to this year's event.
Around 80 percent of all dollars raised during the Carolina Brain Tumor Walk and Race will go towards fueling new programs and initiatives, including strategic research initiatives aimed at finding new therapies, empowering the brain tumor community to advocate for vital government programs and policies to strengthen research and access to essential healthcare, and providing helpful online information and resources to the brain tumor community.
“SeamonWhiteside has participated in this event since 2016 when our own Kenny Seamon received his brain tumor diagnosis,” says Claire Folk, EIT, Civil Designer and Co-Head of Community Engagement Program for SeamonWhiteside's Charlotte office. “We continue to race each year to honor the memory of one of our founders. This cause is incredibly important to raise awareness and funds to support brain tumor patients and families and research and therapies.”
With over half of SeamonWhiteside's Charlotte office participating, the company continues to participate in this meaningful and impactful event while also boosting its employees’ physical and emotional health. After two years of coming together virtually, the 8th annual event will be happening in person, with a virtual option still available for those interested or unable to attend.
“This is the first year the Carolina Brain Tumor Walk and Race will take place in North Carolina,” says Tom Platt, PE, Project Coordinator and Co-Head of Community Engagement Program for SeamonWhiteside's Charlotte office. “The Charlotte office is excited to participate in an important cause in a city that means so much to us. As we receive donations from previous clients and partners, it has been incredible to see how the relationships we have built in the community transcend the boundaries of work to something even more meaningful.”
Fundraising activities were spread out throughout the month to help maintain awareness and involvement, including an internal gift basket raffle. SeamonWhiteside looks forward to continuing this philanthropic tradition for many years to come.
