The Charleston Battery announced today that, due to damage sustained at the stadium at Patriots Point following last night's storms, and out of an abundance of caution, tonight's U.S. Open Cup match against South Georgia Tormenta FC will be closed to the public.
The team said the stadium playing surface and player areas were not affected and the field has been cleared for match play this evening.
Fans who purchased tickets to Wednesday's match will receive direct communication from the Battery with the opportunity to use their purchased tickets at a future match this season or receive a refund.
The match will commence as scheduled with kickoff set for 7 pm. Fans will be able watch the Second Round matchup with Tormenta FC on the ESPN+ streaming platform. The Battery are also hosting fans for an official watch party tonight at Kickin' Chicken in Mt. Pleasant.
The Battery also released the following statement:
“While we regret that fans cannot be with us tonight as we kick off our 2022 U.S. Open Cup journey against Tormenta, we look forward to having everyone back on Saturday, April 23rd for family day at Patriots Point as we take on Louisville City FC at 5 pm.”
