Press Release

The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that works by members of the Pastel Society of South Carolina (PSSC) will be on display at Park Circle Gallery from October 6-30, 2021, as part of the group’s annual judged show. A free reception with award announcements will be hosted by the artists on Friday, October 8th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The public is invited to attend.

The Power of Pastel will feature more than 30 dry pastel works in a variety of subjects by PSSC members. Ribbons for first place, second place, third place, and honorable mentions will be awarded by guest judge, Laurie Meyer, owner of Meyer Vogl gallery in Charleston. Laurie is an accomplished oil painter and teacher who has lived and painted in Charleston for 38 years. She’s won numerous awards for her work and is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the South Carolina Watercolor Association, and the Portrait Society of America.

PSSC is a not-for-profit organization whose objectives are to promote public awareness of the pastel as a fine art medium, to provide educational programs for its members and other interested parties and opportunities for them to exhibit their work, and to unite pastel artists in order to bring about recognition of their work.
