The Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA) will be holding the inaugural Military Salute Regatta on Saturday, June 26th, 2021 in the Charleston Harbor. Active military and veterans will be the star crewmembers aboard racing and non-racing sailboats from all over the Southeast in this event. The regatta aims to honor all active military and veterans that served our country and get them involved in sail racing.
“We, as a sailing organization, want to recognize and salute those that serve in a special way while introducing them to the sport of sailing,” said CORA Rear Commodore Charlie Lent. “Sailors in Charleston and the Southeast hold a special place in their hearts for these heroes, and we want them to know that.”
Ample spectator viewing will be available at the start of the race at Waterfront Park as well as on The Battery. Active military and veterans not racing, will have on-water viewing aboard the Charleston Princess excursion vessel donated by Charleston Harbor Tours. In addition to registering active and veteran military to crew, and registering boats, the regatta is also looking for community-minded sponsors for the event.
Active and military veterans are encouraged to register to crew aboard, and sailboats from all over the Southeast are encouraged to participate in the regatta:
