More about Bread + Butter
Founded in 2018 by longtime Charleston hospitality workers Becky Burke and Xan McLaughlin, Bread + Butter aims to bridge the gap between the labor shortage in restaurants and wanting to offer a positive career path for students. The nonprofit helps students gain employment in the culinary industry by bringing Charleston chefs into existing culinary training programs for the purpose of education and recruitment. After the students receive their hands-on training, they are placed in a job within Charleston's hospitality industry. In addition to a wide range of culinary skills, the students leave the program with strong leadership skills and a sense of pride for their community. Bread + Butter also works to support those working in the culinary industry through a series of unique programs like their weekly Mental Health Monday initiative.
