A new trade association has announced a series of public meetings to discuss the tour guide industry. The group – called Guides of the Gorget, says they will support and promote all lines of business associated with the professional tour guide industry.
The new organization is seeking comment, feedback, suggestions, and ideas about how best to serve the local tour guide industry and the tourism industry. Everyone that is interested in membership is encouraged to meet with them or to visit www.GuidesoftheGorget.com. Brian McFarland, the owner of Charleston Cavalier Tours, is the founder of the trade association.
“Please come and share your opinions with us and help us define the Guides of the Gorget mission statement and core values,” McFarland said.
The initial goal of the group is to obtain legal counsel to assist with structuring the organization and to assist with the writing of the bylaws. In conclusion, McFarland stated his belief that allowing more diversity of tour guides will lead to more employment opportunities and increased tourism revenue for the city.
The meeting schedule is as follows:
These drop-in meetings will be with trade association representatives who will be available to answer questions. A suggestion box, paper, and pens will be available.
