Clemson plated eight runs in the opening three innings, and held the College of Charleston baseball team to one run on six hits in a 13-1 decision on Tuesday evening at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for College of Charleston (13-7), as Clemson (15-5) kept the Cougars off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Clemson scored 13 runs on nine hits and seven walks, while limiting the Cougars to one tally on six base knocks.
Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) paced the Cougars with two hits, including a double, and stole two bases to set a new career-high with his 16thsteal of the season. Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.), Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.), Harrison Hawkins (Bishopville, S.C.), and Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) each collected a base hit.
Kris Kuhn (Summerville, S.C.) battled through five innings of relief work, allowing one earned run on two hits and struck out four. Trey Fields (Kingsport,Tenn.) tossed one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief, while Trent Joiner (Huntersville, N.C.) surrendered two earned runs in one frame.
Jordan Greene drove in four runs for the Tigers, including a three-run home run, as Logan Davidson plated three with a two-run homer and a bases loaded walk. Matt Cooper collected two RBIs with a pinch-hit base hit.
Brooks Crawford earned the win with four and one-third shutout innings. The senior right-hander was on a pitch count after returning from injury. SheldonReed surrendered the Cougars’ lone run of the day in the sixth during a relief outing that lasted two and two-thirds innings. Luke Sommerfeld and Andrew Coker each tossed a scoreless frame.
The Cougars and Tigers will meet in the second game of the midweek series tomorrow evening in Columbia, S.C. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies.
