Local restaurants will be creating meals with a mission at an upcoming gala and auction benefiting East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Doors open at 6:30 pm for the 14th annual event, “A Meal to Remember,” on Thursday, April 11th at Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms.
This annual fundraiser supports the organization's mission of providing daily nutrition, in most cases three meals a day, to residents within its service area who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals, regardless of age or income.
Each year guests gather for this black-tie optional affair to enjoy signature small plates from local chefs and restaurants while bidding on items in both live and silent auctions. Participating restaurants and chefs to date, include:
- Obstinate Daughter, Chef Jacque Larson
- Wild Dunes Resort, Chef Shawn Singer
- Good Food Catering, Chef Tiana Hamilton
- Acme Lowcountry Kitchen, Chef Charles Arena
- Grace and Grit, Chef JD Coleman
- La Farfalle, Chef Michael Toscano
- BACCO, Chef Michael Scognamiglio
- Lowcountry Food Bank (providing Apps), Chef Emily Cookson
In 2018, East Cooper Meals on Wheels served more than 700 homebound recipients. Last year's gala raised nearly $150,000 in support of East Cooper Meals on Wheels — enough to provide more than 50,000 meals.
“This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, generating resources to ensure that none of our homebound neighbors, regardless of age or income, ever pays for a meal or is ever placed on a waiting list,” said George Roberts, president and CEO of East Cooper Meals on Wheels. “We want those who enjoy our meals to also be eating in a way that promotes their health and makes them stronger from the inside out.”
Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online at www.ecmow.org or by calling 843-881-9350.
