A runoff election will take place to determine the Republican nominee for Charleston County Sheriff in the 2024 General Election. Among four candidates in the 2024 Statewide Primaries, none received more than 50% of the vote, prompting the need for a runoff.
The top two finishers from the initial contest, Greg Kitchens and Carl Ritchie, will advance to the runoff. Those who voted a Democratic Party ballot for the 2024 Statewide Primaries are not eligible to vote in the runoff.
The runoff election is set for Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 7 am until 7 pm. Eligible residents will vote at their assigned polling location.
The following polling location change will be in effect for the runoff election:
- Mt. Pleasant 1 at Alhambra Hall moved to: Miram Brown Community Center – 118 Royall Avenue, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. 29464
There will be no other polling location changes from the 2024 Statewide Primaries.
An early voting period will be held from Wednesday, June 19, 2024 through Friday, June 21, 2024. Early voting hours during the early voting period will be from 8:30 am until 5 pm each day. Eligible residents may vote early at any of the three early voting centers:
- Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) headquarters: 4340 Corporate Road, North Charleston, S.C. 29405
- Essex Village Church of Christ: 736 Savage Road, Charleston, S.C. 29414
- Wando Mount Pleasant Library: 1400 Carolina Park Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. 29466
Absentee ballots are being sent to those who have previously requested them in the event of a runoff. Absentee ballot applications must be returned to BVRE headquarters by 5 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024. All completed absentee ballots must be received by BVRE headquarters by 7 pm on Election Day.
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
