Girls Rock Charleston has announced that their 2014 Summer Camp will be held from July 14th through the 18th at Septima P. Clark Academy in James Island. Plus, the program’s showcase will be held on Saturday, July 19th.
The camp provides workshops as well as the opportunity to form a band, write a song, and perform it at a local rock venue. No musical experience is necessary, and all instruments will be provided.
The camp is available to 9-17-year-old girls and transgendered youth. High school age campers are encouraged to apply for the new Junior Counselor program. Applications for campers and volunteers are now available online.
According to a press release:
Girls Rock Charleston empowers girls and trans* youth through music education, DIY media, and creative collaboration. We envision a Charleston where girls decide what it looks like and feels like to be a girl, trust and support each other, and recognize the power and pleasure of their own creativity. Our camp provides opportunities in leadership, mentorship, and music as a platform for social change.
