Due to today’s severe weather forecast, the Charleston County Judicial Center and O.T. Wallace County Office Building will close at 2 p.m. today, Monday, July 1. All other county offices and facilities will remain open as scheduled.
According to National Weather Service Charleston, multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the Charleston area between 2 and 7 p.m. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with localized amounts exceeding 6 inches.
Due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall coinciding with high tide (6.3 feet at 5:09 p.m.), minor flooding is anticipated throughout coastal areas. Urban flash flooding is also possible.
In anticipation of flooding, Charleston County has opened the following parking garages for citizens in flood prone areas to park for free:
- 90 Cumberland Street
- 85 Queen Street
Cars parked in these garages during the storm must be removed by 8 a.m., Tuesday, July 2 to avoid a fee.
All Charleston County offices and facilities are expected to reopen Tuesday, July 2, as scheduled.
As always, citizens should use caution when traveling throughout impacted areas and avoid driving through flooded or barricaded roadways.
