The following is a press release issued by the City of Charleston:
In light of impending hazardous weather conditions, the City of Charleston is urging residents to take immediate precautions to ensure their safety. The National Weather Service has issued critical information regarding high tides, heavy rainfall, and a Gale Warning for Charleston Harbor.
On Monday, high tide is expected at 3:24 AM with a current projection of 7.6 feet, coinciding with the heaviest rainfall. There are concerns that the tide could be higher than anticipated, and the rainfall might exceed current estimates. As a precaution, residents in low-lying areas are strongly advised to prepare for potential flooding and move their vehicles to higher ground.
Additionally, an overnight Gale Warning is in effect until 5:00 AM on Monday for Charleston Harbor. Mariners and residents in coastal areas are urged to exercise extreme caution during this period. To ensure public safety, the City emphasizes the importance of "Turn around, don't drown," urging individuals to avoid driving through flooded roads and not to bypass barricades. In case of emergencies, residents are encouraged to call 911 for immediate assistance.
The City of Charleston will continue to monitor weather updates and provide real-time information through official channels. Stay tuned to local news, weather alerts, and official social media accounts for the latest developments.
