Charleston County Government will recognize two valuable programs during National Community Development Week starting Monday, April 1st. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program provide critical funding to address housing and community-based needs.
Charleston County Community Development and Revitalization staff will highlight both programs during National Community Development Week along with partnering organizations and departments listed below throughout Charleston County by holding informational booths at the following locations.
The week-long celebration brings residents, program staff, partnering organizations, and beneficiaries together through events that recognize and showcase the local programs supported by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. For 50 years, CDBG has provided local communities with an essential source of funds to address affordable housing and community and economic development needs. The CDBG program provides grants to more than 1,200 local governments to create neighborhood approaches that improve the physical, economic, and social conditions in communities. Every dollar of CDBG leverages four dollars in other funding, bringing additional vital resources to communities.
The HOME program has helped communities provide access to affordable housing for low-income households for more than two decades. This program provides grants to over 650 participating jurisdictions to create safe, sanitary, and affordable housing in communities nationwide.
Both the CDBG program and the HOME program are administered locally by Charleston County Community Development and Revitalization to help our most vulnerable citizens and improve the overall condition of our neighborhoods.
