The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA), and Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) are seeking public comment through March 31, 2024 on a plan to improve transit service on the Charleston Peninsula in an effort to increase ridership and service quality.
Last year, the project team heard from community members about changes needed to support downtown travel and evaluated existing transit services and supporting infrastructure. Now, draft concepts to improve transit service on the Peninsula are ready for public comment, including proposed changes to local bus and DASH routes.
Everyone who lives, works, or visits Downtown Charleston is invited to review the draft recommendations and provide feedback to help shape the final plan. Opportunities to provide input include:

You can review the proposed changes to transit service on the Peninsula and share feedback on each recommendation through an online survey through March 13, 2024. It is available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/

The project team will be at several bus stops on the Peninsula to get rider input on the draft recommendations. Timing and locations are as follows:

These activities are part of the Downtown Charleston Transit Study, which is focused on transit service and transit supportive infrastructure in Downtown Charleston, including CARTA’s regular, express, and DASH routes. The study will identify and program investments to develop a refined Downtown bus network and transit priority infrastructure. Study recommendations will align with the planned Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT) modern bus rapid transit system and BCDCOG’s Long Range Transportation Plan.
