Great Wave Books, whose motto is “Owning Books is a Human Right,” is partnering with North Charleston-based organizations We Are Family and Reading Partners SC for their 2nd Annual Book Drive in memory of Kaiea Batts. This year's book drive is being held from May 1st through May 31st. Donors can donate funds and/or new or like-new books via www.GreatWaveBooks.com or at designated drop off locations in Charleston and Tybee Island, GA.
The books collected during this drive will allow We Are Family (WAF), whose mission is to create affirming and safe spaces for the LGBTQI+ youth of Charleston, to fill their community's bookshelves with books for the youth they serve in the tri-county area and to their families and allies. Additionally, Great Wave Books will be able to sustain the new Reading Partners SC Little Free Library at Mt. Zion Elementary School on Johns Island for its first year.
The drive will provide new and like new books to WAF youth and students of Mt. Zion Elementary School – giving them not only the gift of book ownership but also the chance to read stories by representative authors featuring characters who mirror the readers at WAF and Mt. Zion Elementary School.
