Adam Levy, the renowned NYC guitarist for Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, and more, will soon make his debut appearance in the Holy City. Lee Barbour, a long-time veteran of the Charleston music scene, was introduced to Levy through a mutual friend and jumped at the opportunity to bring him to South Carolina. Barbour teamed up with Jason Caughman at LO-Fi Brewing to host a show on Friday, May 24th, 2024.
Barbour will enlist the support of local jazz musicians, Brett Belanger (bass) and Ron Wiltrout (drums), for a show that will include originals and arrangements from all players, but with a focus on tunes from Levy’s new album. The show will run from 7 pm to 9:30 pm. Tickets are available at www.lofibrewing.com. Attendees must be 21+ unless accompanied by a parent.
On Saturday, May 25th at 2 pm, Levy will give a masterclass at Southern String Supply (502 Wando Park Blvd #106, Mt Pleasant). It will be guitar-focused but all musicians are encouraged to attend. Tickets are limited to 30 people and will cost $20. Tickets are available at https://theinstrumentdoc.com or by calling 843-276-9239.
Well known as the consummate sideman, Levy is also a seasoned bandleader. His latest album, Spry, is a playful voyage into the realms of folk jazz with two A-list sidemen of his own, veteran NYC jazz musicians Larry Grenadier and Kenny Wollesen.
