A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Stephen Sondheim's joyous, musical romp through Rome is coming to the Queen Street Playhouse in August. The musical tells the story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the courtesan next door.
Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright, Plautus, with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville.
The production partnered with AFFA (Alliance for Full Acceptance), the College of Charleston Department of Theatre and Dance, and HEART Inclusive Arts Community to build a cast composed of actors of all genders and sizes, drag performers, and performers with disabilities and special needs.
