It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that popular local DJ Richard “Box” Bachschmidt has passed away. He was 43-years-old.
Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts. I will share relevant info as the family allows. Charleston has lost an incredible soul who did so much for this community.
Box was a well-known radio radio personality who worked for 105.5 The Bridge and 98 Rock before recently launching his own podcast, “Box in the Morning.”
He was last seen Tuesday and was reported missing by his family Thursday after he missed some work engagements.
While searching for Box, officers from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office found him dead in his vehicle around 3 am Friday in Mount Pleasant. The cause of death is pending at this time, but there were no initial signs of foul play.
Box’s sister Dawn Bachschmidt Hoskins released this statement on behalf of their family: “Our family is in shock and completely devastated. Richard was a such an incredible man with an infectious personality and a heart of gold. He will be missed terribly. The outpouring of love, prayers and support from the Charleston community is holding up our family and for that, we are forever grateful.”
The “Box Jam” previously scheduled for this evening from 8:30 pm to midnight is still being held at the Tin Roof (1117 Magnolia Road) in West Ashley. All proceeds will be going toward his funeral expenses. If you can’t make it to the event and still want to donate, click here. A celebration of life event is currently being planned for Sunday in Charleston. More details will be announced soon.
