If you missed The Charleston Forum on Friday, June 16th, you can watch a handful of videos from the event below.
The event was a public discussion on numerous important issues facing Charleston and South Carolina. It was held at the Charleston Music Hall and featured numerous panels and speakers addressing racial issues in the context of different subject areas.
The first video shows the forum’s opening remarks from Brian Duffy, an opening prayer from Mother Emanuel A.M.E Church’s Rev. Eric Manning, a welcome from City of Charleston Mayor John Tecklenbur, and t he Criminal Justice and Policing Panel. The panel was moderated by State Senator Marlon Kimpson and featured Kassy Alia from Heroes in Blue, former Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson, and State Senator Gerald Malloy.

The second video shows the Economics and Education Panel, which was moderated by The Post & Courier’s Brian Hicks. It included Paula Boggs, former General Counsel for Starbucks; Godfrey Gibbison a College of Charleston Professor; Former N.C. State Senator Malcom Graham, brother of the late Cynthia Graham Hurd; Boeing’s Lindsey Leonard; and Reverend Nelson Rivers III.

The last video features The Future of the Past Panel with David Blight, Director of Yale’s Glider Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition; State Senator Paul Campbell, Ethan Kytle, Fresno State Professor; Reverend Nelson Rivers, III; and Fresno State Professor Blain Roberts. The moderator was Bobby Donaldson, a University of South Carolina Professor.
