Storytree Theatre, a non-profit children's theatre in Charleston, is partnering with the Charleston Gaillard Education Initiative to offer a new summer camp for children. Additional theater education events such as workshops, classes, and additional summer camps are being planned as part of their partnership.
A themed camp will be offered at the Gaillard this summer. Children enrolled in the camp will write, produce, act, build, create and manage the production from start to finish. The weeklong camp will culminate in an original play performed for family and friends. And, of course, the performance will take place on the beautiful performance hall stage at the Gaillard Center.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to shadow a professional tech director and crew, and work closely with highly trained theater and education professionals. All of this is done in the service of fostering imagination, developing critical thinking, and building confidence in young students.
Storytree's core mission—to make theatre accessible to all children—is primary to the camp, so scholarships will be available to children who face the realities of financial hardships.
Together Storytree and the Gaillard are bringing creative arts, theatre education, and the magic of play to children of Charleston.
