On Tuesday, November 22nd, One80 Place will host their annual “Turkey and a 20” donation drive to stock their community kitchen and end homelessness. The facility will be open from 7 am until 4 pm.
Since most people only have enough time to quickly drop off items, One80 Place has created a fun and festive experience for donors that accounts for that fact. As they drive through the facility grounds, donors will be greeted by local personalities and free Starbucks coffee.
Although the event’s name is “Turkey and a $20,” donors are invited to bring any of the following: monetary gifts of any amount, other proteins (ham, beef, pork, etc.), non-perishables, canned goods, and personal items.
Anyone that donates a Turkey and $20 (or any other combination of frozen protein and hard cash) will be eligible to win a one-night stay at a hotel in Charleston's historic district.
The nonprofit collected about 500 turkeys and $20,000 last year, which nearly filled the Bakker Family Donation Center. The turkeys donated last year provided 6,000 meals.
One80 Place is located at 35 Walnut Street.
