Next month, the Charleston Friends of the Library will host their second book sale of the year from Friday, June 17th to Sunday, June 19th at the Main Library on Calhoun Street . Th event will pay tribute to Cynthia Hurd (right), a former county librarian who was among the nine victims of last June’s tragedy at the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church.
During the sale, a ttendees will have m ore than 13,000 books, DVDs, and CDs, to choose from. Prices start at $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardback books. Items include mysteries, romances, classics, children's books, local histories, cookbooks and a variety of non-fiction topics. Children's books start at just $0.50. Plus, special bookmarks will be given to each patron.
Memorial prints by local photographer Michael Kaynard will also be available for purchase. Proceeds will go towards the Cynthia Graham Hurd Foundation, which advocates for the expansion of literacy and the availability of books to everyone.
Here is this year’s schedule:
- Friday, June 17th: 9 am – 5:30 pm
- Saturday, June 18th: 9 am – 5:30 pm
- Sunday, June 19th: 2 pm – 4 pm (special pricing will be available)
Friends of the Library members will be able to shop on Thursday evening from 5 pm – 7:30 pm. Members can join at the door.
The Main Library is located at 68 Calhoun Street.
