On June 18th, a group of local residents will be participating in Postpartum Progress’ Climb Out of the Darkness event, the world's largest such event raising awareness of maternal mental illnesses like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety & OCD, postpartum PTSD, postpartum psychosis, bipolar/peripartum onset, and pregnancy depression and anxiety.
Climb Out of the Darkness is held on or near the longest day of the year to help shine the most light on these disorders. The event encourages people around the globe to climb mountains or hike trails to represent the symbolic rise out of the darkness of maternal mental illness.
The Charleston group will hike to the top the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and then celebrate at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park for breakfast and fellowship. Registration is required, but free. It’s a family-friendly and stroller-friendly event. For more information, click here.
