Club Pantheon, the long-standing downtown Charleston dance club, will close its doors for good tonight. The bar’s send-off party starts at 10 pm tonight.
The club, which was known for its foam parties and drag shows, was one of the LGBT community’s most popular bars. This year, Charleston City Paper readers voted it the Best Dance Club, the Best Gay Bar, and the Best Lesbian Bar in the city.
The announcement was made on Pantheon’s Facebook event page:
“After 30 plus years in the club business, John Clarkin will be retiring Sunday March 27th. We are planning a special night for him and would like for each and every one of you to come out and help us celebrate the huge contribution he has made over the years. Not only to our nightlife but to countless individuals and organizations that he has so graciously supported without the need for thank you’s or acknowledgement. It’s going to be a night of new and old friends coming together telling stories new and old and having a night to remember. So please make plans to join us Sunday March 27th.
With this, Club Pantheon will be closing its doors after Sunday night. Wih so many amazing years, we will say good bye to John & the club.
Just like all Sunday’s… we will have our S.I.N.Sunday prices! $1 Jello Shots! $2 Domestic Beer! $3 House Liquor! & we are adding $5 all other liquor!!!”
