From Friday, January 15th to Monday, January 18th, We Are Family (WAF), a local nonprofit, will host “Closet Case,” a pop-up thrift shop, at Jericho, Inc. The event will run from 10 am until 5 pm daily.
We Are Family provides support, resources, and leadership development opportunities to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex (LGBTQI), and straight ally youth. The proceeds from “Closet Case” will benefit the nonprofit’s mission of “providing direct support services and leadership development opportunities to gender and sexual minority youth” through varying programs. Additionally, WAF hopes to raise enough funds to start a thrift store and LBGT youth resource and warming center to provide services to the homeless youth population of Charleston (40% of all homeless youth identify as LGBT), who are severely lacking in systems of support.
The January pop-up thrift shop will feature “a funky array of well-curated clothing, home furnishings, and vintage curiosities.” Plus, furniture from the set of HBO’s Vice Principals will be for sale at bargain prices. In addition to the merchandise for sale, WAF will provide free clothing to people in need.
