This past weekend, CBS Sunday Morning ran a segment about the dueling historic preservation philosophies of Charleston and Savannah. While both respect and honor their history, they take different approaches when it comes to preserving architecture.
The Holy City and its Board of Architectural Review usually likes to keep old buildings in tact and forces new projects to blend in, Savannah uses what one person dubbed “‘creative preservation” (essentially the “re-purposing” of historic venues).
