So, what exactly is BandSwap? The event was originally created by a nonprofit organization from Colorado called Spokesbuzz. Due to Charleston’s burgeoning music scene, the group chose Chucktown as one of only ten cities to participate in the program. After being selected, each city had to chose a local artist that best represented it nationally. Forty musicians applied in Charleston, and after a public voting competition through The City Paper the following finalists representing different genres were selected:
- Dead 27s (Rock)
- Estee Gabay (Singer-Songwriter)
- Jordan Igoe (Americana)
- Lectra Lust (Indie)
- Sun-Dried Vibes (Urban)
Each of these artists participated in an industry showcase, which was ultimately won by Jordan Igoe. Part of her prize was to headline the first Charleston BandSwap event. After the concert, Igoe heads to Colorado for five days of shows, networking, and more. The Charleston event will also feature creative industry professionals at the Networking Vendor Village & VIP party, while Healthcare providers will be accessible in the Healthcare Village. 100% of proceeds from the event will benefit the CHS Musicians Healthcare Initiative, a healthcare fund available to working musicians during times of financial crisis. The event will also include:
- 5 pm – 7 pm – SynchroniCity: Musicians’ VIP Party
- 11:30 pm – 1:30 am: Afterparty
Tickets, which are $15 in advance or $20 at door, are available on the official Charleston BandSwap webpage. The full schedule can be found here.
