Young athletes will have a chance to “shoot their shot” and take home a Thanksgiving turkey during the DAE Foundation’s Turkey DAE 2025 Free Throw Shooting Competition on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center in downtown Charleston.
The community event will run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at 265 Fishburne St., offering an afternoon of basketball, prizes, and holiday fun for student-athletes and their families.
Open to coed student-athletes ages 7 to 13, the competition will be divided into the following age groups: 7–8, 9–10, 11–12, and 13. All student-athletes can register online at DAEFoundation.org.
The top free-throw shooter in each age group will win a Thanksgiving turkey — just in time for the holiday feast.
The event will kick off with a warm-up shoot-around led by DAE Foundation founder Jermel President, followed by the free-throw competition.
Adding to the festivities, Hoop Charleston’s mobile basketball arcade will be on site, featuring four basketball games where parents and kids can compete for prizes and bragging rights.
“This event is about more than just basketball — it’s about community, confidence, and connection,” said President. “We’re excited to help young athletes shine while giving families something to celebrate this Thanksgiving.”
The DAE Foundation, founded by former College of Charleston basketball player Jermel President, focuses on youth development through athletics, academics, and community engagement.
