The DAE Foundation and Charleston County Department of Public Safety are teaming up for the third annual Safety DAE at the College of Charleston's TD Arena on March 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Boys and girls ages 9–13 are invited to compete in the Jermel President Free Throw Challenge, with prizes, including a Meta Quest VR Headset, awarded to the top three shooters in two age groups.
“If you love basketball, you’ll love shooting hoops on the big stage at the College of Charleston TD Arena,” said President, a CofC Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
This year’s event also features a Parent’s Bracket, allowing parents of registered athletes to test their skills, plus an exciting 3-Point Competition. Additionally, kids can join a free yoga class led by Amanda Monaco. There will also be pizza provided by Paisano’s Pizza Grill.
Beyond the court, Safety DAE connects the community with Charleston County’s Public Safety departments, including 9-1-1 Dispatch, Emergency Management, EMS, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston Fire Department, and more. Interactive exhibits in the TD Arena concourse will engage students in hands-on activities covering fire and medical safety, natural disasters, the criminal justice system, and career opportunities in public safety.
“The connection between public safety and athletics is clear—we both rely on commitment, character, and dedication,” says Peggyrose Dowd, Community Engagement Coordinator at the Charleston County Department of Public Safety.
