Yonges Island, SC – Kurt Olsen, Vice President of Shipyard Operations at Stevens Towing Company, a family-owned marine transportation company in Charleston County, will be inducted into the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Hall of Fame on September 25.
A 2013 graduate and accomplished soccer player, Olsen helped lead the USMMA men’s soccer program to three consecutive NCAA tournaments. He’ll be among seven honorees recognized this year, joining 168 previously inducted alumni.
“I’m incredibly humbled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, “Olsen said. “But this recognition will never eclipse the friendships I built at the Academy, the competition that taught me endurance, and the sense of determination that drives me today,” Olsen said.
After sailing as a marine engineer for several years, Olsen joined Stevens Towing in 2016 as a Shipyard Coordinator. In 2023, he was promoted to Vice President of Shipyard Operations, where he has been instrumental in optimizing shipyard performance.

Olsen lives in Charleston County with his wife and children. Olsen will be honored at the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony during the 2026 Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend in Kings Point, NY on Friday, Sept. 25 at the Mariner Estate.
