The DAE Foundation and the Charleston County Department of Public Safety are partnering for the fourth annual Safety DAE Free Throw Challenge at TD Arena on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Boys and girls ages 9-13 are invited to compete in the Jermel President Free Throw Challenge, where the top three shooters in two age divisions will receive prizes.
“If you love basketball, you’ll love shooting hoops on the big stage at TD Arena,” said Jermel President, founder of the DAE Foundation and a College of Charleston Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. “This event is about more than competition — it’s about confidence, character and community.”
The event will also feature a parent bracket, giving parents of registered athletes the opportunity to compete on the court. Complimentary pizza will be provided by Paisano’s Pizza Grill.
In addition to the basketball competition, Safety DAE will offer interactive exhibits along the TD Arena concourse featuring representatives from 9-1-1 Dispatch, Emergency Management, EMS, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, the Charleston Fire Department and other public safety partners.
Students and families can participate in hands-on activities focused on fire and medical safety, natural disaster preparedness, the criminal justice system and career pathways in public safety.
“The connection between public safety and athletics is clear: we both rely on commitment, character and dedication,” said Peggyrose Dowd, community engagement coordinator at the Charleston County Department of Public Safety. “Safety DAE is a powerful way to engage young people while strengthening community relationships.”
The event is free. To register or learn more, visit daefoundation.org/
