Porter-Gaud School has named Matt Neighbors as its new Head Football Coach. Previously, Neighbors served as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Flint River Academy in Woodbury, Georgia.
“We are eager to have Matt lead our football program and build on the solid foundation that’s been established over the past several years,” says Al Wilson, Athletic Director. “Under his leadership, we will continue to foster a positive and enriching experience for our student-athletes that aligns with our school’s mission and values.”
This past season, the Cyclones had an 11-2 record and advanced to play in the SCSIA 4A state championship game.

Beginning this job is a dream opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to build on an already storied program,” says Coach Neighbors. “My family and I are excited to get to Charleston and fully immerse ourselves in the Porter-Gaud community.”
Coach Neighbors comes to Porter-Gaud with 13 years of coaching and teaching experience. In addition to serving as Head Football Coach, Neighbors will also serve as a Middle School PE teacher at Porter-Gaud. A native of LaGrange, Georgia, Matt received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from the University of West Georgia.
While at Flint River, Coach Neighbors helped produce a top 10 defense state-wide in points per game allowed while winning the 2023 GIAA Single-A State championship.

Coach Neighbors will replace Brad Bowles, who served as head coach for the past six seasons.
