NAMI Charleston Area will host its annual NAMIWalks fundraising event Saturday, Oct. 3, at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant.
The community-wide event brings together residents, families, advocates and business partners to raise money, reduce stigma and promote mental wellness across the Lowcountry.
“NAMIWalks is so much more than a walk,” said Lori Smith, executive director of NAMI Charleston Area. “Every step represents hope, courage and a reminder that no one should have to face a mental health challenge alone.”
“When our community comes together to walk, share, support and raise awareness, we send a powerful message: Mental health matters, every story matters and there is always a place for you here,” Smith continued. “I’m incredibly grateful for every person who walks beside us and helps move our community toward a future where everyone can find hope and support.”
Registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 10 a.m. Registration is free, but fundraising and individual donations are strongly encouraged.
Money raised through the event will support NAMI Charleston Area’s free local mental health support groups, educational programs and community advocacy initiatives for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Participants may register individually, create a corporate or family team, or contribute online at namiwalks.org/charlestonarea.
