On April 22, 2025, Dorchester County Council joined with Dorchester Parks and Recreation Commission and Dorchester County Parks and Recreation staff, to celebrate the opening of the new Swan Drive Kayak Launch.
This is the county’s second public kayak launch and is located less than five miles from the county’s Ashley River Park Kayak Launch. From the launch, experienced kayakers can paddle along the Ashley River with access to various local historic sites and wildlife viewing opportunities.
The new launch is the uppermost kayak launch open to the public on the Ashley River Blue Trail, which includes up to 30 miles of paddling opportunities along the Ashley River towards downtown Charleston.
