The Department of Communication at the College of Charleston will host a panel discussion titled “Portals and Paychecks: The State of College Basketball.”
The panel will take place April 14 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Rita Hollings Science Center. The event is open to the public.
National Basketball Hall of Famer Debbie Antonelli, Field of 68 co-founder Jeff Goodman and College of Charleston Director of Athletics Matt Roberts will discuss the evolving landscape of college basketball in the era of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness (NIL).
The discussion will be moderated by Scott Eisberg, sports director for ABC News 4 in Charleston and an adjunct communication professor at the college.
Antonelli is one of the nation’s top college basketball television analysts, calling both women’s and men’s games on major broadcast networks. She has won two Emmy Awards and a Gracie Award and is a member of the North Carolina State University Women’s Basketball Ring of Honor.
Goodman is a leading college basketball insider. The Field of 68 is one of the sport’s top platforms for breaking news. He has worked for several major outlets, including Stadium, ESPN, CBS Sports and Fox Sports.
Roberts has overseen 19 NCAA Division I sports at the College of Charleston for nine years. During his tenure, the men’s basketball team has made three NCAA Tournament appearances (2018, 2023, 2024), and the women’s team earned its first NCAA Tournament berth in 2026.
Eisberg has worked at ABC News 4 since 2007. He has won multiple South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award. He has covered the NCAA Men’s Final Four and College of Charleston’s recent appearances in the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments.
