On April 18, 2026, the Lowcountry community will gather once again at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island for the 22nd Annual Pat Tillman Honor Run—joining more than 40 cities nationwide in honoring the life and legacy of Army Ranger and former NFL player Pat Tillman.
Now recognized as the highest-attended Honor Run site in the country outside of Tillman’s hometown of Tempe, AZ, the Charleston chapter has grown into a powerful local tradition rooted in service, sacrifice, and leadership. It has also become one of the city’s signature spring events, uniting veterans, families, students, and local businesses around a shared cause.
Founded in 2016 by US Marine Corps veteran Joel Jackson, the Charleston Honor Run has grown from a small grassroots gathering into a premier community event that draws runners, walkers, veterans, families and supporters from across the region.
“Pat Tillman’s legacy is bigger than a race,” said Jackson. “This event is how we bring his values to life here in Charleston. He chose to serve our country and our freedom over an NFL career, and we honor that sacrifice by helping develop the next generation of leaders who lead with courage, character, and purpose.”
Pat Tillman left a successful NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals following the attacks of September 11, 2001, to enlist in the U.S. Army. He served multiple tours before he was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2004. His legacy lives on through the Tillman Scholars Program, which provides academic scholarships, leadership development and a powerful national network to military service members, veterans and military family members. Proceeds from the Charleston Honor Run directly support these scholars—helping them pursue higher education and continue lives of impact and service.
Local business leader Billy Hall of Halls Chophouse and Management Group also shared his connection to the event.
“Supporting the Pat Tillman Honor Run of Charleston is both a privilege and a cherished tradition. During my time with the San Francisco 49ers, I met players who knew Pat personally," he said. "Their stories deepened my admiration for the man he was. We’re proud to support a mission that uplifts our military community and empowers future leaders.”
The 4.2-mile run/walk (symbolizing Tillman’s No. 42 jersey) will begin at 9:00 a.m., with participants encouraged to arrive by 8:00 a.m. for pre-race ceremonies and bib pickup. The event concludes with the “Pints for Pat” afterparty at Viva Tacos & Tequila.
Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. To register or learn more, visit www.tillmanrunchs.com. Follow @tillmanhonorrun_chs on Instagram and @PatTillmanHonorRunCharleston on Facebook for updates.
