After more than two decades of bringing the Lowcountry together in support of maternal mental health, Postpartum Support Charleston has announced that the 23rd Annual Moms’ Run, scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, will be its final year. Organizers are inviting the community to come together for one last event celebrating the impact, connection and thousands of moms served over the years.
What began 23 years ago as a small walk in Hampton Park has grown into one of Charleston’s most popular Mother’s Day weekend traditions, drawing hundreds of participants each year and raising funds for local moms. As the organization has grown, so has its reach, with expanded programs, stronger community partnerships and support for more women across the tri-county area.
“We’ve grown in ways we never expected, and that growth has made one thing very clear,” said Elaine DeaKyne, executive director of Postpartum Support Charleston. “We’re reaching more moms in more meaningful ways than ever before, and we’re at a point where we want to create new experiences that reflect the size, needs and impact of this community. This final Moms’ Run is both a celebration of where we’ve been and a stepping stone toward where we’re going.”
The 23rd Annual Moms’ Run will take place at Philip Simmons High School and will feature a 5K run and walk, Kids Dash and the one-mile Mom Village Walk. In a shift this year, the Mom Village Walk will be free and open to everyone, removing barriers and allowing more families to participate.
Family Fun Day returns as The Mom Village, a gathering space featuring local vendors, food trucks, family-friendly activities and stroller-friendly areas to rest and connect. The event aims to create a welcoming environment where moms feel supported and not alone.
Participants can also purchase a limited-edition Mom Village T-shirt designed for the final year, with proceeds supporting the organization’s programs.
Since its founding, the Moms’ Run has helped fund peer support groups, educational initiatives, resource assistance and community-building efforts for pregnant and postpartum moms. The organization now serves families across the Charleston tri-county area, addressing a growing need for accessible maternal mental health support.
This year’s event has already drawn more than 450 registered participants, with a goal of exceeding 550 attendees and raising $60,000 to support and expand programs.
“For 23 years, this community has shown up for moms in the most meaningful ways,” DeaKyne said. “This final Moms’ Run is our opportunity to say thank you for every step, every registration and every moment of support that has helped build something truly life-changing.”
While the Moms’ Run is coming to a close, the organization’s mission will continue. Postpartum Support Charleston is developing a new large-scale community event for 2027 aimed at expanding access to support and connection.
“This isn’t the end. It’s a new chapter,” DeaKyne said. “The Moms’ Run did exactly what it was meant to do, and now we’re ready for what comes next.”
The community is invited to take part in the final Moms’ Run on May 9.
