Charleston County Parks will introduce a new race at Laurel Hill County Park this November. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Shake Your Trail Feathers race will debut at the Mount Pleasant park, offering a 5K, 10K and Kids Dash.
The fall race will combine off-road adventure with seasonal fun. Runners will weave through wooded paths and dirt trails while kicking up some leaves. Costumes are encouraged, and runners can enjoy a finish-line celebration featuring music and fall-themed treats. The course will also offer views throughout the park, including moss-draped oaks.
Race winners will take home the fixings for a Thanksgiving feast, and all finishers will receive a commemorative medal.
The 5K and 10K will begin at 9 a.m. Before the races, children of all ages are invited to participate in an untimed Kids Dash across the finish line at 8:45 a.m. A parent or guardian must be present.
Advance registration is required for all races and includes a finisher medal. Registration is available at CharlestonCountyParks.com and ends Wednesday, Nov. 4. On-site registration will not be available.
Registration fees are:
- 5K: $38
- 10K: $40
- Kids Dash: $5
The course features natural, unimproved trails and is a loop with occasional areas of uneven terrain. Surfaces vary from hard-packed trails with roots to grass. Strollers are not recommended, and pets are not permitted on the race course. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles.
The race is open to runners and walkers of all levels, including beginners. Participants younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult. No accessible parking is available. An accessible portable toilet will be available at the event site.
Laurel Hill County Park is located between U.S. Highway 17 and S.C. Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant. For the race, attendees must enter through the special event entrance at 1400 Highway 41. Access through Park West will not be permitted for the event.
