The Palmetto Kit was officially unveiled on Friday by the Charleston Battery and hummel®, the same day South Carolina was admitted to the Union in 1788. The shirt design celebrates the state’s 237th birthday by taking direct inspiration from the state flag and motto.
Clad in indigo like the state flag, the goalkeeper kit features the palmetto tree on the side, which has been a symbol of the state since the 1700s, and on the flag since the 1800s, and is the South Carolina state tree.
On the shoulders reads “The Palmetto State” and “While I breathe, I hope.” The former is a reference to the state’s nickname and the latter is the state’s motto translated from Latin.
The Palmetto Kit will be debuted by the Battery’s goalkeepers on May 31, when the club hosts Greenville Triumph SC at Patriots Point in the USL Jӓgermeister Cup. Tickets for the match are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club's exclusive digital ticketing provider.
Fans will be able to purchase the jersey for the first time on May 31 at the team store inside the stadium. Online sales will begin on June 1, the day after the game.
