“I love the U.S. Open Cup, I played in it as a player, coached in it with an amateur team, coached in it with two USL sides,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “So, you get to see every side of it, it's fun, it's exciting. Most importantly, it’s another opportunity for us to represent the Black and Yellow. There's been so much success with this club, we want to continue to take it one day at a time and put our best foot forward.”
Charleston will aim to add another chapter to their storied history in the competition and in slaying the giants in MLS in Open Cup play. The Battery were 2008 Open Cup finalists, defeating Houston Dynamo FC and FC Dallas along the way, and have also taken down Chicago Fire, Chivas USA and San Jose Earthquakes in the tournament since then.
