Eighteen women’s teams will compete at Caledonia while 15 men’s teams will tee it up at True Blue in the 54-hole events that will be played September 8-10. The men’s field will feature: Loyola-Chicago, New Orleans, Presbyterian College, Charleston Southern, Texas-Arlington, Mercer, North Carolina A&T, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Richmond, Seton Hall, Stephen F. Austin State, USC Upstate, Wright State and Stetson.
On the women’s side, defending champion UNC Wilmington is back to defend its title against Florida Atlantic, Stephen F. Austin State, Tennessee Tech, UNC Greensboro, Charleston Southern, Dartmouth, Boise State, Charlotte, High Point, New Mexico State, Queens University, UAB, Campbell, North Carolina A&T, Arkansas State, Morehead State and USC Upstate.
At the heart of the Golfweek Fall Challenge’s enduring appeal are True Blue and Caledonia, sister layouts that are ranked among the nation’s top 100 public courses. Located less than a mile from each, the Mike Strantz designs offer contrasting yet equally enjoyable experiences.
Caledonia was the legendary Strantz’s first solo design, and it captured the attention of the golf world, earning “Best New Course in America” honors upon its 1994 opening, and its reputation has only grown. The layout plays through a stunning piece of the Lowcountry property, featuring soaring live oak trees draped in Spanish moss and the marshy waters of the Waccamaw Neck.
True Blue offers a different but equally riveting experience. Everything about the sprawling layout is big - the expansive fairways, gargantuan waste bunkers, undulating greens and of course, the fun. True Blue’s combination of creativity and challenge have made it one of America’s premier public golf courses.
