COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Senate Democrats are encouraging voters across the state to take advantage of early voting through a friendly competition between two members of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Sen. Tameika Isaac Devine (Richland County) and Sen. Ed Sutton (Charleston County) have entered into a wager over which of their home counties will record the highest number of early voters before Election Day.
"Richland County voters have always understood the importance of making their voices heard," said Sen. Tameika Isaac Devine. "Richland County voters understand the assignment. More importantly, I hope voters across South Carolina make a plan to cast their ballots early."
Sen. Ed Sutton welcomed the challenge.
"I appreciate Senator Devine's confidence, but Charleston County voters are always up for a challenge, and never back down from making our voices heard,” said Sen. Ed Sutton.
When asked which county he believed would emerge victorious, Senate Democratic Leader Brad Hutto offered a brief response along with his trademark smirk of: "No comment."
While the senators may disagree on which county will claim bragging rights, they are united in encouraging all eligible South Carolinians to participate in early voting.
For information on early voting locations and hours, voters should contact their county election office or visit the South Carolina Election Commission website.
