Ashley Figueiredo (District 6), Kelli Roberson (District 4) and Lindsey Draugel (District 2) announced today that they are running together as a coalition of candidates for the Berkeley County School District Board of Trustees in November.
All three are former educators who say their firsthand experience in BCSD classrooms and communities has shaped their shared conviction that the board needs leaders who understand what is happening inside the district’s schools, are willing to ask difficult questions, hold leadership accountable and put students, teachers and families first.
“Each of us brings our own experience and perspective to this race, but we share the same conviction: Our board needs leaders who understand what’s actually happening inside our schools,” the candidates said in a joint statement.
The three candidates say meaningful change on a school board does not come from a single voice, but from a shift in how the entire board operates. That is why they are campaigning as a coalition rather than as three individual candidates.
Electing all three, they say, would give BCSD a board with the numbers and unity needed to advance:
- Teacher and staff retention
- Equity for every student
- Transparency
- A stronger voice for parents
“This November, District 2, District 4 and District 6 have the chance to send a clear message: BCSD is ready for change,” the candidates said.
About the Coalition
- Ashley Figueiredo, District 6, is a former BCSD teacher with nearly a decade of classroom experience, including four years in Berkeley County. She is also a current BCSD parent and founder of a local nonprofit.
- Kelli Roberson, District 4, is a former educator and Berkeley County School District employee. She recently retired after serving five years as a principal, 10 years as an assistant principal and 10 years as a teacher. She also spent one year working alongside district office staff.
- Lindsey Draugel, District 2, is a former early childhood educator with 20 years of experience, a BCSD parent and a community advocate. She is committed to being a student-centered, teacher-forward voice for the district.
The BCSD school board election is nonpartisan. All three candidates will appear on the November ballot in their respective districts.
