On Sunday, veteran educator and education advocate Sylvia Wright announced that she will officially file as a candidate for South Carolina Superintendent of Education on Monday, March 16, 2026.
With more than 20 years of experience in education, Wright has served as an educator and leadership coordinator.
“For too long, our education system has been failing students, teachers, and families,” said Wright. “South Carolina deserves leadership that understands the classroom, respects educators, and is willing to fight for real change. I am running because our students deserve a system that prepares them to succeed, and together we can move South Carolina from the bottom of the rankings into the top ten.”
Over the past year, Wright has traveled across all 46 counties—twice—meeting with teachers, parents, students, and community leaders to hear directly about the challenges facing schools. Wright said those conversations have "shaped a campaign focused on improving literacy outcomes, supporting educators, strengthening accountability, and investing in the future of South Carolina’s students. "
Wright has already been endorsed by March On PAC and backed by 25 elected officials, community leaders, activists, and educators, including former South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Robertson.
