South Carolina Senate Democrats released the following statement in response to Gov. Henry McMaster’s announcement that he will call the General Assembly back into special session for congressional redistricting:
“South Carolinians have every right to ask what the Republican-controlled legislature actually accomplished this session to make their lives better,” said Senate Democratic Leader Brad Hutto. “Republicans spent more time and political energy trying to redraw congressional maps, even actively working against concerns raised by some of their own members, than they did improving our schools, protecting consumers and South Carolina farmers from the impact of reckless tariffs, or helping working families cope with rising gas prices and economic uncertainty.”
“At a time when South Carolinians are worried about affordability, healthcare, education, and the future of our economy, the Governor has chosen to call lawmakers back for a special session focused entirely on politics and power,” Hutto continued. This is being driven by a national political agenda shaped by Washington insiders and perpetually online partisan operatives with little understanding of the real challenges facing South Carolina communities.”
“Senate Democrats will continue fighting for fairness, transparency, and policies that actually improve the lives of South Carolinians instead of wasting taxpayer dollars on another divisive redistricting battle.”
