Columbia, S.C. — State Senator Brad Hutto has introduced a Senate resolution honoring five Orangeburg County teens who were inducted as Eagle Scouts on February 7, 2026, during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony at Trinity United Methodist Church in Orangeburg. Their induction marks the largest group of African American Eagle Scouts recognized together in South Carolina history.
The honorees, Eagle Scout Willie Townes, Eagle Scout Derwin Brailey, Eagle Scout Khamary Cleckley, Eagle Scout Sean Nimmons, and Eagle Scout Melvin Hart, are members of Scouting America Troops 500 and 190. The resolution also recognizes Scoutmaster Ron Mosley for his leadership and dedication to mentoring young people in the Orangeburg community.
“The rank of Eagle Scout represents the very best in service, discipline, and leadership,” said Sen. Hutto. “These five young men have set a powerful example for our state, and their achievement during Black History Month makes this moment even more meaningful. They are building a legacy that will inspire future generations.”
Earning the Eagle Scout rank requires years of work, community service, and demonstrated leadership. Senator Hutto’s resolution commends the Scouts, their troop leadership, and their families and community supporters for helping make this historic milestone possible.
