Sarah Spangler today announced her withdrawal from the City Council District 6 Race. You can reach her full statement below:
"Due to personal circumstances, I am currently unable to fully commit myself to this campaign. I am honored to have met so many neighbors throughout this process, and in doing so, I have witnessed the tremendous needs facing our community—particularly the cycle of poverty that leads to financial strain and housing instability, which threaten safe, livable homes for those directly in my community.
I will be transitioning my efforts toward establishing a nonprofit focused on ensuring neighbors have access to safe and secure housing, which is an immediate and urgent need in our community. I plan to return to the District 6 race in 2029, fully prepared to bring my expertise, education, and experience in developing communities—particularly those with the demographic and industry profile of District 6—to the work of the City Council.
I am deeply grateful for the support I have received and know that these experiences will only strengthen my ability to serve Charleston with compassion, accountability, and vision in the years ahead.
Charleston is at its best when we show up for each other—knocking on a neighbor’s door, offering a hand, or simply taking the time to connect. Let’s keep building a community rooted in kindness and care, while holding our leaders accountable to stewardship and service over personal gain."
