NEWBERRY, S.C. – Samsung Electronics America (SEA) and Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America (SEHA) welcomed nearly 200 students from the Newberry County School District on Friday, October 3, 2025, to celebrate National Manufacturing Day at its Newberry manufacturing facility. The event showcased advanced manufacturing in action and highlighted the career opportunities available to the next generation of innovators.
Since 2019, SEHA has partnered with the district to provide hands-on learning, facility tours, and conversations with leaders about workforce development and pathways into high-demand careers.
This year’s program featured remarks from Congresswoman Sheri Biggs, SEHA leadership, and educators, along with leaders from the National Association of Manufacturers:
- Carolyn Lee, President and Executive Director of the Manufacturing Institute
- David Bohrer, Senior Director, Photography
- Jody Milanese, Director, Member and Board Engagement
Students participated in guided tours of Samsung’s advanced manufacturing facility, explored apprenticeship and internship opportunities, and heard directly from leaders about the role of manufacturing in driving economic growth. Each tour concluded with a group photo to commemorate the day.
“Manufacturing is the backbone of the South Carolina economy and the American economy,” said Congresswoman Sheri Biggs. “Events like National Manufacturing Day give young people a firsthand look at the innovation and skills that drive our state forward. Samsung’s commitment to investing in workforce development ensures that the next generation is prepared to lead, create, and keep South Carolina at the forefront of manufacturing excellence.”
Manufacturing is deeply woven into South Carolina’s economy. It directly employs more than 263,000 people across over 4,000 companies, and accounts for 12.7% of the state's GDP. By opening facilities to students, manufacturers like Samsung demonstrate their commitment to education, workforce development, and long-term economic vitality. Specifically, at SEHA, since its opening we've invested over $500 million in the facility and produced more than 7.5 million washers, generating nearly $1 billion in economic impact statewide. Newberry County has been home to Samsung since 2017, when we opened our first U.S.-based home appliance manufacturing facility.
“National Manufacturing Day is about showing students that advanced manufacturing is innovative, dynamic, and essential to our future,” said Jeremy Lee, President & CEO, Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America. “We’re proud to continue this partnership with the Newberry County School District and to inspire students to see themselves as the next generation of creators and problem-solvers.”
